St Patrick’s Day is an important event on our school calendar for more reasons than one. It is a day to wear green and celebrate the Irish Patron Saint but it is also the day that our Social Justice Team make green cups, green cookies, pancakes and jellies to share. We sell the treats at recess to help raise funds for Caritas.
Caritas support people in need all around the world.
Caritas has worked towards the creation of a just world for over 100 years. In 1964, Caritas began in Australia. They are an Agency who work for International Aid and Development.
Caritas is Latin for love + compassion – two qualities which are central to their work and something that we help to promote through our Social Justice Team. Thank-you to everyone who sent along food to share and for helping to make it such a fabulous day!
What does your school do to celebrate St Patrick’s Day?
Earlier this year our Social Justice Team organised a dress-up day and cake stall, to raise money and awareness, for student education in poorer countries. Today at assembly we were joined by the Victorian President of Vinnies for the Assist a Student program. Paul McCarthy thanked all the families and students for raising enough money to sponsor 9 children in developing countries, to make it possible for them to be attend school. It was wonderful to hear about what a difference our hard work and generosity can make.
Raquel – What a great way to Celebrate St Patrick’s day, with everyone dressed in green and helping to support the victims of the cyclone in Tonga.
Rylee – The Social Justice Team organised a Fundraising event to help the people of Tonga. The team made green cupcakes, biscuits, green jelly and cordial. It was good to donate money for the cause while also celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
Luke – It was wonderful that everyone got into the Spirit of the day by wearing green. There were lots of leprechaun hats, green capes, t-shirts and more.

Patrick – As my name is Patrick I love St. Patrick’s Day. I enjoy wearing green and eating lots of green food. My highlight of the day was helping to sell the green food to the rest of the school.
Chloe – I really enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day and donating for the people of Tonga who lost their homes in the cyclone. I also liked wearing green and seeing all the people’s happy faces.
Our Social Justice Team organised a magnificent day for us to celebrate St Patrick’s Day whilst raising awareness for those less fortunate. We dressed in green and danced into school to some Irish Music as we prepared to celebrate the Day. The team also made cakes, biscuits and green jelly for us to buy, to raise money for Caritas, a wonderful organisation who provide support for those in need, both in Australia and around the world. It was a fantastic day. Special thanks to our awesome Social Justice Leaders, Hannah, Simon and Fintan.
