People want to know,
Who we are
Where have we come from,
So we tell them
We’ve come from Camp Rumbug
Mighty Mighty Rumbug
And if they cant hear us
We get a little louder!

What a wonderful 3 days we have had down at Camp Rumbug in Foster, Southern Victoria. The weather was great but the mud was cold. All the kids worked in teams to get through the challenges like abseiling, environmental ropes, the giant swaing, titanic raft, canoeing, adventure bridge and more. The was a night walk in the forest and toasting marshmallows at the camp fire. The final night we had games and a disco.
It was great to share the camp with students from St Bedes in North Balwyn. It was so much fun and a wonderful chance to get to know each other away from school. Many special memories will be with us forever!

Family Maths Night http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/2012/05/03/family-maths-night/ http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/2012/05/03/family-maths-night/#comments Thu, 03 May 2012 05:21:37 +0000 vgridley http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/?p=1001 On Tuesday night our parents came to school for a Family Maths night. We all gathered in the Discovery Centre. It was a fantastic opportunity to show our parents what we do at school in maths.
It is very hands on, with lots of concrete materials and problem solving to help us learn.
We discovered many new things together and it was great to collaborate with other families to enhance our learning.

Our Visit to the Melbourne Museum http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/2012/04/26/our-visit-to-the-melbourne-museum/ http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/2012/04/26/our-visit-to-the-melbourne-museum/#comments Wed, 25 Apr 2012 23:28:21 +0000 vgridley http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/?p=995 Our Visit to the Melbourne Museum and Imax on PhotoPeach

It was a fabulous day at Melbourne Museum and Imax. The human body exhibition showed the various systems that help our bodies to function. We discovered 3D models of the inside of the body, the skeleton and the brain.
The Human Body movie, at Imax, was as big as a 7 storey building. It was an incredible journey through the body and how it functions every day of our lives. We are learning so many new and exciting things about our bodies.

It highlights the story of Vincent VanGogh, his search for inspiration in the colours of the world around him and his struggle to be understood.

Ruby-The Sunflowers were bright yet simple. Vincent VanGogh was a great artist. He taught me that it doesn’t matter what others think of your artwork, if it’s good to you then nothing else matters.

Mark-Although Vincent VanGogh was a mad man his art changed the world immensely and it still captivates people today.

Interschool Sports Champions http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/2012/03/30/interschool-sports-champions/ http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/2012/03/30/interschool-sports-champions/#comments Fri, 30 Mar 2012 04:17:16 +0000 vgridley http://juniorsblackburn.edublogs.org/?p=962 All seniors Nong and chloe cup and flag Sports day winners The nerves and energy levels were high as we boarded the bus, on our way to Knox Athletics track.
All the grade 4, 5 and 6 students were participating in a range of field and track events. We had been practicing every Friday all term so we were keen to test our skills at the huge track.
Everyone did their best and Harry was a star, breaking a 16 year old record in the 100 meter hurdles. We were achieving amazing results in all domains so we knew that it would be a close result in the end.
As the final scores were tallied and read aloud we were in the top 3. Everyone held their breath until the final announcement……we had won! Everyone jumped and screamed and cheered. Two of our captains received the trophy and flag. The team support, encouragement and spirit was commendable from our students. It had been a fabulous day for everyone involved.

Top of the mornin’ to you!
Today there was a sea of Green at school as we all dressed up for St. Patrick’s Day.
We had so much fun, setting up our stall, decorating the school in posters and selling our delicious treats.

We all enjoyed working together and selling our home made treats, like cupcakes, jellies and cookies. We raised over $730 for Caritas. Their message is “If you want Peace work for Justice.”
We hope that our fundraising will help to bring Justice to many nations that are in Poverty.

In Art we wanted to use this inspiration to capture our own images from the stories, especially “From Little Things Big Things Grow.”
The aboriginal art is inspired by colours in nature. The vibrant colours contrast beautifully with the black backgrounds. We used symbols and dots to fill the images with colour.
