Juniors’ Toy Expo

Today we held a Toy Expo in the Discovery Centre. Over the last 2 weeks we have been designing and making our own toys at home. All the grades at school came to our expo to see our wonderful creations. We have learnt many things about toys and what they can teach us and this was a great opportunity to share this learning with the school and with our families.

Junior M  thought of all the categories that our toys might belong to. Here is the chart that we created and a photo of Mrs Mac telling us about her teddy bear, Dougal.

Junior M’s Wordle about Toys

This morning, we made a wordle about what we know about toys so far this term. We wrote about the toys and materials they are made from. We have discovered lots of toys and we have put some on this wordle. We are going to find out how toys work, how they wind up and how they can stick together, eg. a magnet.
This afternoon we are doing a Toy Carousel.

Our Favourite Toys

Ms Scott and Mrs Gridley sent us an invitation during the holidays to bring our favourite toys to school. Here is a slideshow of some of us with our toys. We have begun to explore the science behind our toys and have many interesting questions that we would like answered.

Our Trip to the Art Gallery

On Friday both the Junior classes ventured into the city of Melbourne to visit the National Gallery of Victoria.  We saw the most famous painting in the gallery which had traveled over many countries. There were some beautiful costumes there. We also saw a coloured roof made out of glass.

Making dolls from different cultures in Art

This week we have been making and decorating dolls from many different cultures and countries. We chose the dolls and costumes from cultures we have been learning about or from our families culture. After designing the specific costume we wanted to make, we brought in a variety of materials from home to use.

Here are some of  our creations…
